Gergel Wins City Council Race
Dr. Belinda Gergel, community activist and retired professor, won the District 3 seat on Columbia City Council being vacated by 20-year veteran Anne Sinclair. Gergel received nearly 70% of the vote and won every single precinct against a well-funded challenger.
The campaign made extensive use of the Internet over nearly a year-long run including up-to-date information on key issues, journal posts by the candidate and active online event management. Gergel enhanced the timely content of her website with weekly messages to supporter lists, producing one of the highest voter turnouts in a city election in history. She also raised more money online than any previous city council candidate.
