Voucher Opponents ask TRG help for Online Advocacy Services

Business, civic and non-profit organizations coming together to oppose the Put Parents in Charge school voucher legislation have hired TheRackesGroup to build its grassroots platform and manage messaging to constituents.

Coalition organizers of the effort to bring the grassroots movement of parents, educators and the business community together required a one-stop hub where timely information can be offered along with the tools to act individually and as a group was critical to their success. TheRackesGroup built an action center where participants can identify their legislators, find direct contact information for all members of the South Carolina House and Senate; and communicate with them via email or fax. In addition, supporters can write letters to the editor of the state's newspapers, connect with friends and business associates who favor continued progress for public education and engage in a blog about the issue.

"Don't expect them to talk about state seniors improving their SAT scores by 32 points in five years, the largest gain in the nation," said Frank Willis, Mayor of Florence and coalition co-chair.

"We don't expect them to even mention the merits of full-day kindergarten or improved school readiness or to acknowledge advancements that have come as a result of the 1998 Education Accountability Act. Since the passage of the EAA, students in grades 3 through 8 have raised their performance in all subjects tested, across all grade levels and demographic groups."
