Choose Children First Pushes To Table Bad Voucher Bill

Opponents to Gov. Mark Sanford's plan to give tax credits to parents who send their children to private schools died for the year when the House voted to table the legislation.

The original bill, which called for a statewide program of tax credits for private school tuition went to the floor early in the morning. It would have given tax breaks to parents transferring their children from public schools. The credit could have been used for costs of paying tuition at independent schools or for home schooling or transferring to other public schools.

The vote was in question until the CCF coalition encouraged grassroots supporters to phone, email and fax members of the House. More than 6,000 communications 24 hours went to members of the House through Choose Children First's Call-to-Action application configured by TheRackesGroup earlier this year.
