Department Of Education Launches Choice Database
Choice within public schools is a keystone in Superintendent of Education Jim Rex's vision for public education. As the focus on choice parental choice grew, the burden on the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) to inform parents about those choices also increased. In 2007, TheRackesGroup was charged with identifying, cataloging and aggregating all types and locations of public school choice programs in South Carolina and presenting them in a manner that allowed parents, students and the public to understand the teaching styles and select among those available in their geographical area.
The result of the study is represented on an informational website and searchable database. The information within the database is entered by the districts and schools and, after confirmation by the SCDE, made visible to the public, All entries are monitored weekly and districts and schools prompted periodically to review their information for accuracy and completeness. www.sceducationchoice.com
